A quiet table in the downtown core
Piața Romană is one of the busiest crossings in Bucharest, ringed by the economics academy and a steady flow of students and office workers. Turn onto General Christian Tell and things settle. That is the trade we like about this corner: you are a short step from the traffic, sitting somewhere unhurried enough to order a second coffee.
Regulars here are locals easing into the day, students between lectures, and visitors who have worked out that this pocket of Sector 1 does mornings better than the Old Town. It is the cultural side of the centre. Finish up and the Romanian Athenaeum, the length of Calea Victoriei, or the leafy quiet of Grădina Icoanei are all within reach before your coffee wears off.

What to order at Amzei
Breakfast is served from 09:00 and the eggs are the reason most people walk in. Eggs benedict on Cheddar-Scones is 51 lei: poached eggs under hollandaise on our own cheddar scones, with avocado-feta mash, pomegranate and granola (add bacon for 14 lei, salmon for 17 lei). Shakshuka Burrata, 59 lei, is a sunny-side-up egg in spiced tomato and pepper sauce with feta crumble and homemade seed crackers. Citește pe românește: Eggs Benedict în București.
For something sweet, the Creme Brûlée French Toast with Salted Caramel is 51 lei, and the Carrot-Cake Vegan Pancakes, 51 lei, come with vegan mascarpone, strawberries and berry jam. Plates are cooked to order from locally-sourced ingredients, with vegan and vegetarian choices on the same card; in the vegan dishes we keep the seed oils to a minimum. A mimosa (29 lei) suits a slow morning.
The cookies are what pull people back. We bake them here every day with real butter and quality chocolate — Classic Choco Chip, Nutella & Maldon Salt, Lotus & Dulce de Leche, Cinnamon-Roll Cookie, Raspberry & Pistachio — thick with a firm edge and a soft centre, 25 to 26 lei each. Have one in with a specialty coffee, or carry it towards the Athenaeum. There is a slice from our Cheesecake by Cookie Beacon line when you fancy something forked rather than held.

Getting here
You'll find us at Strada General Christian Tell 1-3, a quiet side street that opens onto Piața Romană in central Sector 1 — Piața Romană metro station (M2) is on the square itself, and the Academy of Economic Studies is around the corner. Walking on, Calea Victoriei comes first, then Grădina Icoanei and the Romanian Athenaeum, an easy first stop before the museums and concert halls. Piața Universității is further south.
