Win a free chunky cookie by playing Where’s the Cookie?, our little game at cookiebeacon.com/hunt. One of our cookies escaped the oven and ran through five places; you chase it through five short mini-games on your phone or laptop, with three lives and about twelve minutes. Find it, pick the Cookie Beacon Brunch spot where you’ll collect it, and a one-time code lands in your inbox. Show the code at that spot within 30 days and the cookie is yours. It’s free, there’s nothing to buy, and it works at all five of our brunch spots: two in Budapest, two in Bucharest and one in Belgrade.

How the game works

The hunt is five stops, played in order. Each one opens with a card that tells you what to do, and gets harder round by round. You have three lives for the whole hunt, not per stop, so a slip in the kitchen still leaves you room in the pantry.

StopWhere the cookie hidesWhat you do
1. Crumb Trailthe kitchenTap 5 mini cookies among the decoys in 30 seconds. Donuts and bagels are tricksters.
2. Cup Shufflethe brunch counterWatch the cup with the cookie under it while the cups swap, then tap the right one. Three rounds, each faster, up to 5 cups.
3. Snack Memorythe snack cupboardA quick peek, then flip cards two at a time to match every pair before your moves run out. 6, then 8, then 10 pairs.
4. Hot or Coldthe gardenDig a patch and follow the heat, from cold to burning, with a handful of digs per round.
5. Lights Outthe dark pantryMove a flashlight around in the dark and tap the one golden cookie in 40 seconds. Ordinary cookies cost you 3 seconds.

Lose a life and you get another go at the same stop. Lose the last one and the cookie gets away. You can play again straight away, as many times as you like. Only winning is limited.

Every game is checked by our server as you play it, which is what keeps the cookies going to people who actually found one. It also means that reloading the page in the middle of a stop counts as a miss, so finish the round you’re in.

What happens when you win

Clear the fifth stop and the claim form opens. It asks for three things:

  1. Your first name.
  2. Your email address. The code is sent only there. It never appears on the screen, so a typo means no cookie. If sending fails, the code screen offers a Send it again button.
  3. The brunch spot where you’ll collect it. The code works only at the spot you choose.

You’ll also see an optional box for our newsletter. Winning never depends on it.

Then walk into your chosen spot within 30 days, show the code at the counter, and the staff check it and hand over a chunky cookie. Each code works once.

The rules in short

  • Free to play, no purchase needed. You must be 14 or older to claim a cookie; if you’re younger, ask a parent or guardian to enter their email.
  • One cookie per person each calendar month, counted by email address. Capital letters, ”+” tags and dots in a Gmail address all count as the same address.
  • A limited batch every day, shared by all five spots, plus a monthly total. The start screen shows how many cookies are left today. A new batch starts at 07:00 Budapest time (08:00 in Bucharest).
  • When the day’s or the month’s cookies are gone, nobody can win until the next batch, but you can still play for fun.
  • The prize is one chunky cookie. It can’t be swapped for cash or other products.

The full version, with the fair-play terms, is on the game rules page.

Pick the spot you’ll actually walk past. The code is tied to it.

Playing over brunch at one of our tables works too: win, pick that spot, and collect the cookie on the way out, or come back for it another day.

A few tips from the kitchen

  • Cup Shuffle: keep your eyes on the cup, not on the swaps around it.
  • Snack Memory: the peek at the start is short. Lock in two or three pairs during it and you save moves later.
  • Hot or Cold: dig far from your first patch on the second dig. The heat reading tells you more when the two digs are apart.
  • Lights Out: sweep the flashlight in rows rather than at random. Tapping an ordinary cookie costs you time, so only tap the golden one.

Ready? Start the hunt. And if you’d rather bake than hunt, our chunky cookie recipe shows you how to make them at home.
