Cookies, coffee and a corner of Stari Grad

Kralja Petra is one of Belgrade’s older streets, the kind you slow down on. It crosses Knez Mihailova and carries on toward the Cathedral and Kalemegdan, past worn stone façades and the odd flourish of Art Nouveau. Somewhere along that walk you reach number 20a, and that’s us. We’re a family-run brunch spot; the first Cookie Beacon opened by the Basilica in Budapest in 2021, and this is the one and only in Serbia.

The room fills up in an easy, unhurried way. Some mornings it’s regulars who treat the place like a second kitchen; other times it’s people who drifted up from Republic Square with no fixed plan. Turn up solo with a book or arrive with a well-behaved dog in tow, and we’ll bring a water bowl over. The table is yours for as long as you like.

From the counter

Start at the counter, where the chunky cookies come out fresh through the day: real butter, proper chocolate, Belgian chocolate, Nutella, Lotus and Dulce de Leche, crisp at the edge and gooey in the centre. One wrapped for the walk to the fortress is never a bad idea. Stay longer and the brunch is cooked fresh on-site, with big plates and honest choices for vegans and vegetarians, and we go easy on the seed oils in the vegan dishes. Round it off with a slice of Cheesecake by Cookie Beacon and a specialty coffee, or a mimosa if the morning calls for one.

Getting here

We're at Kralja Petra 20a in Stari Grad, Belgrade's old town. The street crosses Knez Mihailova and runs toward Kalemegdan, so if you're heading from Republic Square up to the fortress, our shopfront is on the way. Look for Cookie Beacon at number 20a and come in.
