Top 10 Brunch Spots in Budapest Compared: Hours, Prices, Bookings (2026)

Ten brunch spots in central Budapest, compared on the things that decide a morning: when they open, whether you can book, what one plate costs on their own menu, and which neighbourhood they put you in. In District V by the Basilica: Cookie Beacon (Hercegprímás u. 15) and Blueberry Brunch (no. 17), two doors apart, plus Cafe Brunch Budapest on Zrínyi utca. At the Váci utca end of Belváros: Cookie Beacon Ferenciek tere and Deszka. In the Jewish Quarter: STIKA, Cirkusz, Grumpy and Fat Mama. Up by Oktogon: Cosy Café. Two things the table settles that most roundups leave vague. First, most of these rooms do not take a booking at all, and the ones that do take it with conditions. Second, a single main runs roughly Ft 3,950 to Ft 5,600 across all ten, so “value” comes down to service charges and coffee prices more than the headline dish.

The top 10, in one line each

1. Cookie Beacon, Basilica (Hercegprímás u. 15, District V). Hearty brunch, chunky cookies baked daily, Barcelona-roasted coffee. Mon–Fri 08:00–17:00, Sat–Sun 09:00–17:00. Walk-in only.
2. Cookie Beacon, Ferenciek tere (Ferenciek tere 1, District V). Same menu, cheaper coffee, on the square at the Váci utca end. Same hours. Walk-in only.
3. Blueberry Brunch (Hercegprímás u. 17, District V). All-day breakfast two doors from our Basilica café. Mon–Fri 08:00–16:00, Sat–Sun 09:00–17:00. “NO reservations, just walk-ins.”
4. STIKA (Dob u. 46/a, District VII). Bagels and pancake burgers on Klauzál tér. Mon–Fri 08:30–16:00, Sat–Sun 08:00–16:00. Bookable 08:00–10:00 and 14:00–16:00.
5. Cafe Brunch Budapest, Bazilika (Zrínyi u. 8-10, District V). The biggest chain in the city; this branch is first come, first served. Daily 08:00–16:00.
6. Grumpy (Klauzál u. 34, District VII). English breakfast and pancakes all day, laptop-free. Daily 08:00–17:00. Reservations recommended, walk-ins on capacity.
7. Cirkusz (Dob u. 25, District VII). Roasts its own coffee, Eggs Benedict is the bestseller. Daily 07:30–16:00. Reservation policy not stated on its site.
8. Cosy Café (Szondi u. 11, District VI). Small room near Oktogon with a 12-seat terrace. Daily 08:00–15:00. No reservations in busy periods.
9. Deszka (Veres Pálné u. 31, District V). Eggs Benedict on a cheese scone, a few streets off Váci utca. Mon–Tue 08:30–15:00, Wed–Sun 08:30–16:00. Walk-in only.
10. Fat Mama (Kazinczy u. 24, District VII). Charcoal-oven pub with a short brunch window, 11:00–13:00. Reservation policy not stated.

The order is by neighbourhood cluster, not a ranking. Where a rival’s own site does not state a fact, the table says so rather than guessing.

Budapest brunch places compared: the table

Cookie Beacon’s own prices are from the September 2026 card, and they are the only two rows here we can guarantee on the day, because we set them. The Basilica menu and the Ferenciek tere menu are online in English and Hungarian.

Reservations vs walk-in in Budapest: who takes a booking

Sort the table by its reservations column and central Budapest brunch splits three ways.

Bookable, with conditions. STIKA reserves tables only for two windows, 08:00–10:00 and 14:00–16:00, and only up to half the room, so the midday peak is walk-in there too. Grumpy is the one venue on this list whose FAQ actively recommends booking, by phone or online, with walk-ins taken “depending on our capacity”. Cafe Brunch Budapest books indoor tables only: its Anker (Anker köz 1-3) and Lánchíd branches every day, Rakpart (Belgrád rakpart 18) and Brunch Bistro (Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út 19/b) on weekdays; the chain asks groups of six or more to book and takes a non-refundable EUR 10 per person deposit for larger groups, credited against the bill.

Walk-in only. Cookie Beacon at both Budapest cafés, Blueberry Brunch (“NO reservations, just walk-ins”, group requests by email), Deszka, and Cafe Brunch Budapest’s Bazilika branch on Zrínyi utca, which the chain lists under “first come first serve”. Cosy Café’s FAQ says it stops taking reservations in its busy periods and seats everyone first come, first served.

Not stated. Cirkusz and Fat Mama publish hours and menus but no reservation policy on their own sites. Third-party guides describe Cirkusz as walk-in only; we have not been able to confirm that from the café itself, so call ahead if it matters.

When booking wins. A weekend table for six, a fixed time before a train, or a reactive dog you would rather not have standing on a pavement: book, and that means Grumpy, STIKA in its windows, or a Cafe Brunch branch that takes indoor bookings. Note that none of those three lets you book a terrace seat.

When walking in wins. Any weekday, any party of one to four, or anyone who wants to eat before 10:00. Most of the ten open at 08:00 on weekdays and the rooms fill from about 10:00 to 13:00 at weekends. At Cookie Beacon the calmest stretches are the 08:00 weekday open and mid-afternoon after 14:00, when the full menu is still on; at weekends the 09:00 open is the reliable slot. Both our rooms are among the few walk-in-only spots on this list that open at 08:00 on weekdays; Blueberry, two doors up, is the other one on the same street.

Best value brunch in Budapest: what the published prices say

Across the ten, a main costs between roughly Ft 3,950 and Ft 5,600 wherever a price is published. At Cookie Beacon the cheapest mains are the Breakfast Crunch Pretzelbun-Sandwich at Ft 3,950 and the Yogurt & Honey Whipped Granola Bowl at Ft 3,950; the dearest is the Philly Cheese Steak Protein-Bowl at Ft 5,600. Several mains sit under Ft 5,000: Carrot-Cake Pancakes Ft 4,400, Madrid Smashed Eggs Ft 4,500, Eggs Benedict on Cheddar-Scones Ft 4,600 and the Chicken & Waffles Stack Ft 4,950. Grumpy’s Continental Breakfast at 3,950 Ft matches our cheapest plate; its Classic Eggs Benedict is 4,650 Ft to our Ft 4,600. Cafe Brunch Budapest’s Eggs Benedict is HUF 4,450, but the chain’s menu adds a 15% service charge at the bill, which puts it above both once you pay. STIKA’s bagels sit at 4,400–4,800 HUF.

So a realistic per-person spend at any of these is Ft 4,000–10,000, depending on whether you add a coffee, a cocktail or something sweet. Where the venues differ is around the main: coffee, service charge, and portion size.

We read 800 of the two Cookie Beacon cafés’ positive Google reviews from May to August 2026. Forty of them talk about price, and the verdicts split between “pricey for Budapest” and “worth it”; none call it poor value. Sixty-two describe the portions as generous, often with the advice that one plate feeds two. A receipt from one of them:

Best for: the picks

Best value. Grumpy and Cookie Beacon, on published prices: both put a full plate on the table for Ft 3,950 with no service charge printed on the menu. If coffee is part of the bill, Cookie Beacon’s Ferenciek tere café is the cheaper of our two rooms: espresso Ft 790 against Ft 900 at the Basilica, cappuccino Ft 1,290 against Ft 1,300, flat white Ft 1,490 against Ft 1,500.

Highest-rated in 2026, by the numbers we can stand behind. Cookie Beacon rates 4.8 across our two Budapest brunch spots on Google, the per-café mean of the Basilica and Ferenciek tere profiles. We have not printed the other nine venues’ star ratings because we cannot verify them from their own sites, and a number copied from a third-party page is stale within weeks. Look each one up on Google Maps on the day; the pattern you will find is that all ten are well liked.

Best for tourists. For the Basilica, Andrássy Avenue and the Opera: Hercegprímás utca, where Cookie Beacon and Blueberry Brunch are two doors apart and both take walk-ins, so if one is full you cross the pavement. For Váci utca, the Danube and Elizabeth Bridge: Cookie Beacon Brunch Ferenciek Tere at Ferenciek tere 1, on the square itself, a few steps from Váci utca, with Deszka a short walk further in. For the Jewish Quarter and the ruin bars: STIKA, Cirkusz, Grumpy and Fat Mama are within a few blocks of each other.

Best walk-in bet. Cookie Beacon, for the simple reason that we run two rooms on the same policy and hours: if the Basilica café is full at 11:00 on a Saturday, Ferenciek tere is a short walk south down Váci utca and usually calmer. The Cookie Beacon Brunch Basilica page has the map.

Best for a bookable table. Grumpy, whose FAQ asks you to book, or Cafe Brunch Budapest’s Anker and Lánchíd branches for an indoor table any day of the week.

How Cookie Beacon’s two rooms differ

The menu is the same printed card at both, 61 items, and every food price matches. The only divergence is five coffees, all cheaper at Ferenciek tere: espresso Ft 790 (Ft 900 at the Basilica), cortado Ft 1,190 (Ft 1,200), cappuccino Ft 1,290 (Ft 1,300), flat white Ft 1,490 (Ft 1,500) and latte Ft 1,390 (Ft 1,400). Signature lattes are Ft 1,950 at both, the mimosa bar Ft 2,100, and the chunky cookies Ft 1,990.

The Basilica café on Hercegprímás utca is the original, open since 2021, with a pavement terrace and a mezzanine; it draws the visitor traffic because the Basilica is two minutes away. Ferenciek tere is where Belváros eats on a weekday: a vaulted brick room upstairs and straw parasols on the square. The list is curated back to exactly ten at every refresh: a venue that closes, changes policy or stops publishing hours drops out, and the next best-documented room in central Budapest takes its place. Every rival fact is taken from that venue’s own site or listing, never from another roundup, and where the venue does not state something the table says “not stated” rather than filling the gap.
